Junk King’s Paul Durant Named a Franchisee Rockstar by Franchise Business Review

Franchise Business Review recently analyzed research from over 27,000 franchisee surveys across more than 300 leading brands to identify the best of the best in franchising today: the Rock Star Franchise Owners of 2020. The search was narrowed down to just a few hundred candidates representing successful franchise owners worthy of the “Rock Star” title – including our very own Junk King franchise partner Paul Durant!

After spending 29 years in corporate America managing steel distribution centers, Paul decided it was time for a change. In October 2011, he went into business for himself and opened Junk King Denver, offering fast, eco-friendly junk removal to his local community. He immediately saw opportunities to grow the business and wanted to use it to help develop young people starting out in the working world.

As he grew his staff, Paul created a mentoring and training program that focused on customer service, a focus that has earned his business many rave reviews. “When my employees make clients happy, they’re doing their job,” says Paul. “We just made their lives easier.” He recently opened his second location, Junk King Englewood, earlier this year.

Check out some of the highlights from Paul’s Franchisee Rock Star Q&A:

What are you most proud of when it comes to your career in franchising?

We have built a solid group of employees—mostly young men without much education—to develop and mentor into responsible adults.

What do you like most about your franchise organization?

Franchising allows us to operate independently, with little red tape. I like mentoring the younger employees in our organization and recycling/donating a large percentage of our work. Both are both ways of giving back to the community that are woven into our culture.

How have you raised the bar for your business and your franchise system?

The implementation of bonuses and profit sharing, employee evaluations focused on customer satisfaction and revenue generation, and utilizing input from our employees to drive improvement would be the three biggest takeaways.
