Sometimes a great event or a big project results in a large volume of debris. Garbage cans won't work in those cases so the better option is a dumpster rental.
The problem, however, is that many times a commercial dumpster is simply too big.
Those Big, Ugly, Steel Containers
We've all seen them. The big, often dented and rusty, steel boxes with the bulky doors on one end. And they certainly are big. In fact, the typical industrial "strength" dumpsters hold 30 or even 40 cubic yards of debris.
When loaded level full, a standard pickup truck will hold 2.5 cubic yards of material. This means that a 40 yard capacity commercial dumpster can hold the equivalent of 16 pickup truck loads of debris.
That's a lot of trucks!
The problem is that for most of us, that's far more capacity than we typically need, even for those big hauling jobs that require more than a few trash cans. And getting that debris and junk into those monster containers is a chore in itself. Most of them do have double-doors on one end. But have you ever tried to work with those?
And then you have to be strategic in how you load the thing. Piling it all on one end at the start and then finding that you can't leave the doors open any longer. So now you have to get your junk, trash or debris up and over the walls of the container. And, often, those walls are eight feet high!
What Happened to My Driveway?
Another downside of those over-sized garbage containers is the damage they can do to asphalt parking lots and concrete driveways. They tend to slide a bit when they are dropped off, which can scrape and gouge. And, if that were not enough, they tend to drag and scrape some more when they get picked up and hauled away.
If you've seen a typical commercial dumpster you might notice that they are not shiny, clean and in good shape. In fact, they are often rusty, dented, dirty, multi-colored with mismatched paint, and even hazardous. Sharp edges and busted hinges are not uncommon.
Not to mention that they're unsightly.
The truth is, no one wants to have one of those things sitting on their street for days at a time. The neighbors don't want to look at them. And you certainly don't want to see one in your own driveway or on your curb.
And we won't even take time here to talk about the cost of a commercial dumpster rental.
