When Your Residential Trash Gets Out Of Hand

Sometimes people can find themselves faced with excessively large amounts of household trash. And the problem is that they need to get rid of it somehow.

Maybe it's from the aftermath of a big family get-together or the result of a successful attempt to downsize and some major spring cleaning. But how are you going to dispose of all that trash?

Call it Rubbish, Trash, Debris, or Garbage - It Still Has to Go

While some folks make a distinction between "trash" and "garbage" others do not. And there are some who still refer to it all as "rubbish" which, while it may be a bit quaint, is a nicely generic way of covering all types of trash, garbage, and household debris.

What all these things have in common, however, is that they all need to be disposed of.

Most of us in urban and suburban America - and even in many rural areas - are accustomed to having our trash picked up once a week (sometimes every two weeks...) by whatever local waste management company or municipal agency takes care of that task.

And many of us are provided with handy debris bins, or "trash cans," to put our trash into.

This is usually sufficient although there are times, especially around the holidays, when we might generate a bit more trash than we can fit into the bins for that week. But we somehow manage to get it all in by the next week or so.

But then there are times, such as after a major cleanup or as the result of a large DIY homeowner project, when we find ourselves with so much trash and debris that we'll never get it into those bins. In fact, we could be filling them over and over again for weeks! And that's when we have to find an alternative method for removing and disposing of all the excess trash.

So, what do you do then?

the do you really need it checklist

When Your Tash Piles are Bigger Than Your Trash Bins

Here's the thing: you could execute a do-it-yourself move and load some or all of your bags of excess trash into your trunk, back seat, or - if you have one - the pickup truck bed. Then you could haul it to the local waster transfer station or, in some places, directly to the landfill.

But what if you don't have a truck? What if you don't want to haul trash in your car? And what if your piles are not in bags but just in... well, piles?

Depending on the composition of your excess trash, the whole process can be quite messy. In fact, it may be far easier to simply hand it all off to someone else to take care of for you. While that may be a friend or family member with a truck and a strong constitution, it will more likely be a junk removal service

And, at Junk King, we think this can be a great approach. However, you do want to be careful about who you hire to take on the job.

Going with a reputable and professional service is always the better option over simply hiring some guy with a truck. Not only will a firm like Junk King, for example, show up on time as promised, but we are insured, bonded, highly trained, and efficient.

The guy with a truck? Not so much.

Also, if you call in Junk King to pick up, remove, and dispose of your excessive trash and other junk items, you'll be helping your neighborhood and the planet since we routinely recycle as much of everything we haul away as possible.

While you can simply call and then stand back while your trash is hauled away, sometimes you can improve the process with just a small amount "pre-trash removal" prepping.

In order to help with that we created this handy checklist to give you some trash removal tips:

And remember, while you may want to just try to take care of it all yourself, it really is a far more efficient and cost-effective to call on the pros!

The problem with the DIY trash removal option is that most, if not all, of that trash will end up in a landfill, incinerator, or worse. And this is not a sustainable approach to trash disposal in the US.

According to one source, for example,

Though it’s home to only 4% of the world’s population, America is responsible for 12% of the planet’s trash.

That was the finding of the 2021 edition of Environment America Research & Policy Center's "Trash in America" report... According to the report, in 2018 over half of the waste — including 91% of plastic — discarded by homes and businesses in the U.S. was ultimately dumped into landfills or burned in incinerators.

But trash removal with Junk King will ensure that as much of your trash as possible that can be recycled or reused will be diverted and processed, avoiding landfills, incinerators, and the environment.
