February 7, 2020 was National Wear Red Day® and Junk King joined with the American Heart Association to support Go Red for Women and women’s heart health.

All of Junk King's locations participated in the promotion which included everyone wearing red, of course, and donating $10 to the American Heart Association (AHA) for every junk hauling job booked on that day, nationwide. 

Education and prevention of heart disease in women is crucial. According to an AHA press release,

“Powering the future of women’s heart and brain health is imperative to the work we do at the American Heart Association and to the mission of Go Red for Women,” said Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Heart Association. “With 1 in 3 women dying of cardiovascular disease, we must ensure women are equitably represented in research.”

Now in its 16th year, Go Red for Women encourages awareness of heart disease and stroke. They work in communities around the world to help women understand that cardiovascular disease is their greatest health threat and empowers them to take action to lower their risk.

Wear Red, Haul Junk, Donate

One of the many participants in our franchise-wide fundraising effort was Junk King Gold Country, located in beautiful Grass Valley, California. 

Owners Greg and Peggy Lymath are local residents living in nearby Foresthill, and they have shared a passion for giving back to their community for many years. Participating in Junk King's Wear Red Day fundraising event proved to be a good thing for both their business, and the AHA.

This year's AHA Wear Red Day event was a great opportunity for Junk King Gold Country to do what they do best: serve customers with junk hauling and raise money for a good cause.

Co-owner, Peggy Lymath shared that over the past two years they have donated time, money, and item donations to a number of organizations and non-profit groups including Veterans Stand Down Nevada City, American Legion, Nevada City High School's Football Team, Salvation Army, and youth baseball.

In addition, they have donated to the recent Camp Fire victims, including water for the  Camp Fire victims shelters and the Volunteer FIRE Department.

Lot's of Junk Hauling Means a Big Donation

Along with Junk King franchise owners all across the country, Greg and Peggy Lymath along with their great team, succeeded in completing 101 completed jobs which allowed them to donate a total of $1,010.00 for the Go Red for Women initiative.

Along with dozens and dozens of other Junk King locations, our team was able to contribute to Junk King's franchise-wide fundraising effort and we were proud to present a check to the American Heart Association for a total of $5,810.

With a total of almost 600 junk hauling jobs booked in just one day, our team was able to contribute a significant donation to an education and prevention initiative that holds a personal importance for many of us. 

Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative. it is a comprehensive platform for their mission to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for global change to improve the lives of women.

Wear Red Day is over for 2020, but supporting women's heart health is not! As the Go Red for Women website states,

"It’s no longer just about wearing red; it’s no longer just about sharing heart health facts. It’s about all women making a commitment to stand together with Go Red and taking charge of their own heart health as well as the health of those they can’t bear to live without."
