From apartments and homes to small shops to large manufacturing concerns, scrap metal can pile up. The good news is that it can all be recycled and reused.

The problem for many is simply getting the piles and stack of metal debris, scrap metal parts, and other metal junk to a recycler. But there's an answer.

the do you really need it checklist

When the Scrap Metal Gets Too Heavy

Sometimes that junk metal lying around in your garage, your shop, or even your backyard is only still there because you keep telling yourself that it's useful. And the truth is that it actually is useful - only maybe not while it's taking up space on your property.

Junk metal and scrap metal can take on many forms from old car or tractor parts, to old machinery and equipment, to construction debris and more.

And it can be found in homes, in offices, in shops, and even in storage units.

The problem is that scrap metal of most any type is a much needed and valuable resource that cannot be made use of unless it is properly recycled. And that won't happen while it sits where it's been since you first deposited it there.

However, the other "problem" that is behind that problem is loading it and hauling it away.

Which is why Junk King specializes in removing and disposing of scrap metal junk.

Is Scrap Metal Recycling Really a Thing?

As one noted politician often said, "You betcha!"

In fact, most metals are not only recyclable, they are infinitely recyclable which means most metals can be used over and over again.

For example, used steel comes from cans, construction debris, household appliances, and cars, among other things, and it can be turned right back into "raw" steel to be used for exactly the same things.

Recycling used aluminum products only requires five percent of the energy that is used to make raw aluminum material.  As a result, almost half of our aluminum supply comes from recycled aluminum. It can take as little as two months for an aluminum can to be recycled and returned to the store shelf as a new product.

In addition to steel and aluminum, metal recyclers also reuse massive amounts of copper, cast iron, and wrought iron, lead, and zinc.

How much?

According to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), every year the U.S. scrap industry recycles:

  • 85 million tons of iron and steel
  • 5.5 million tons of aluminum
  • 1.8 million tons of copper
  • 2 million tons of stainless steel
  • 1.2 million tons of lead and
  • 420,000 tons of zinc

Scrap metal at work is quite common. And this is especially true for manufacturers and others who deal with equipment and machinery. But scrap metal for recycling can be found in residential homes and apartments, as well.

This handy graphic from one recycler provides some great tips for homeowners and renters:

Metal Recycling: Getting It from Here to There

For some corporate entities, transporting their scrap metal materials for recycling presents little in the way of challenges. They have the trucks, the personnel, and the resources for the task. And, in all likelihood, they do this on a regular basis.

For others, however, the need is not consistent or terribly frequent. Nor do they have the means for loading and hauling their scrap metal waste.

Which is why, as we've noted previously, Junk King makes it a point to offer both residential and commercial scrap metal removal and hauling services. We have the trucks, the manpower, and the expertise to quickly and safely remove and load your scrap metal junk and other waste.

And we have the connections, relationships, and resources to see to it that all of your scrap metal is properly recycled.

From used car tire rims, to unusable household appliances, to massive amounts of aluminum or steel cans - and just about anything else you can think of that is made with recyclable metals - we can haul it away for you.
