We've have always had to live with the possibility of storms, floods, fires, and other damaging aspects of nature. But some years seem to be worse than others.

When your home or outdoor spaces have been struck by any of these events, and you've got a mess to clean up afterwards, it can present an especially difficult junk removal challenge.

When Your Outdoor Junk is More Than Yard Waste

There can be all kinds of reasons for needing to get rid of junk from your property.

Old sheds, rotting decks, falling fences, leaning gazebos - you name it, we've probably removed it. And the list goes on. But there are other events that can occur which bring a different kind of junk removal problem.

Storms - perhaps even tornados or hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, just to mention the more prominent events, can literally wreak havoc on a home and its property.

And it seems that 2021 has been a particularly bad year for many of the ravages of nature.  Which also means it's been an especially busy year for homeowners and others because of the clean up and removal of damaged property that has taken place - and continues to do so.

Which is why Junk King specializes in all types of junk removal services.

When the Rains are Too Much and the Tide is Too High

Flooding may be on the increase in many part of the US, according to federal agencies.  A recent article at NOAA noted,

“High tide flooding is becoming common and damaging in many parts of the U.S.,” said William Sweet, Ph.D., an oceanographer for NOAA’s National Ocean Service.

The article went on to highlight that the national high tide flood frequency is expected to continue to accelerate, with US coastal communities seeing on average 3 to 7 days of flooding in the coming year, as compared to 2-6 days projected just last year. And, by 2030, long-term projections show 7-15 days per year of high-tide flooding for coastal communities nationally.

By 2050, that is expected to increase to 25-75 days.

Tornadoes are notoriously difficult to confirm and track, but a recent study looking into the annual number of tornadoes found a decrease in the traditional "Tornado Alley" of the Great Plains and an increase in the Southeast's "Dixie Alley".

One of the main conclusions was that, after removing non-meteorological factors, the annual frequency of US tornadoes, based on the most reliable historical records, has remained relatively constant.

Unless you live in or near "Dixie Alley".

And, if you've ever experienced even a close call with a tornado cell, you understand the extent of the wind and even hail damage that can be wrought.

When the Ground is Dry, the Water Scarce, and the Air is Hot

Once again, the US and the Western States in particular are being scorched by record wildfires.

Even if a home or neighborhood escapes the destruction of the flames, there can be plenty of damage brought on by smoke and burning embers. Sometimes the home is spared, but fences or outbuildings are lost.

Any property damage directly or indirectly caused by these fires usually means extensive clean up afterwards.

The fire season, unfortunately, is far from over and a recent update of wildfires in the US was sobering.

National Preparedness Level 5 as of July 14, 2021 (on a scale from 1 to 5)

August 12, 2021
Large fire activity continues in 14 states across the country. Currently, 104 large fires or complexes have burned 2.4 million acres. 8 sates currently reporting large fires.

Junk removal can play a key factor in helping to keep homes and property save even before a potential wildfire breaks out near you.

Keeping a five foot wide perimeter closest to your house clear of flammable materials will greatly improve the chance of your home surviving a wildfire. And in traditionally wildfire-prone areas, maintaining a clear and defensible space within 100 feet of a home is the law.

It is also highly recommended elsewhere.
